The Alpine Baptist Church, in response to the teachings and example of Jesus Christ, reaches out into our community and county through benevolent and charitable helps. The following causes have been and are being supported by the membership of our Church. You may wish to choose one or more of these projects to support with your time, money, energy, and prayers.
THE BENEVOLENT FUND
A special fund exists to meet the needs of people in our area who fall on hard times because of sickness or other unfortunate circumstances. Ordinarily, cash is not provided but goods and services are. Among those projects supported from these funds are the following:
A. Purchase of propane gas for homes of elderly persons on fixed incomes
B. Provision of medicine and transportation for kidney dialysis patients and other medical patients who have problems
C. Provision of cash for working families who lose income from serious and prolonged illness
D. Sponsorship of drug treatment fees for individuals who require such treatment. Drug abuse is society's largest symptom of spiritual need.
E. Assistance to individuals who lose their homes by fire
THE SCHOLARSHIP FUND
A designated fund exists to provide college, university and trade school scholarships for members and also sons, daughters and grandchildren of members of Alpine Baptist Church. Scholarships have ranged from $1,000 to $2,000 per year. This project was initiated by Phillip Smith, M.D., and members have since added to the fund. Many friends and members of the Church send money to the fund in memory or honor of their loved ones and friends. Each spring, scholarship applications are received and awarded.
HOBNOBBERS
In 1991, the Church established a fellowship group called the HOBNOBBERS. Members of the community, regardless of church affiliation, meet, eat, and enjoy educational, inspirational, and social programs.
PRESBYTERIAN HOME SHELTER
The Church provides funds for gifts to children residing in the Presbyterian Home Shelter. Upon each child's birthday, the Church sends $50 so that each child may have a gift on his or her birthday.
MISSIONS
Alpine Baptist Church, in addition to the local ministries, supports our denominational causes. Each year, at Christmas and Easter, our Church raises several thousand dollars for foreign missionaries who share the gospel outside the United States. Alpine is affiliated with the Alabama Baptist State Convention, the State and National Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, and the Coosa River Baptist Association.
ALPINE OUTREACH
The church supports, in cooperation with Trinity Episcopal Church, Kingston Baptist Church and New Maryland Baptist Church, a program to provide weekly meals to shut-ins who live in the Alpine area. Volunteers from our church and community deliver meals and have contact with the sick and elderly who wish to receive meals. William Killough, a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, was inspired to develop this program. Churches and individuals make financial contributions to this project.
ALPINE CEMETERY FUND
Alpine Church, established in 1832, is the oldest church in Talladega County. The private cemetery is kept up by the Church and family members of those buried at the cemetery. A trust fund exists to maintain the cemetery, hopefully in perpetuity. Donations are received from individuals and churches like Trinity Episcopal Church and Alpine Baptist Church. The common grounds are kept by contract. You may make your check payable to The Alpine Cemetery Fund.
EXEMPT STATUS
All contributions made to the Alpine Baptist Church are tax deductible. Receipts are provided annually for income tax purposes.
"In as much as ye have done it for the least of these, my brethren, ye have done it for me." Matthew 25:40
